SABC Releases Interim RFP Book

SABC Board Statement on RFP Book Release

Johannesburg, 28 June 2010 – The SABC today issued an interim RFP book calling for local programming proposals in specific television content genres. This is part of the process towards normalising content commissioning and procurement procedures begun under the current SABC Board.

The SABC expects to release a comprehensive RFP Book in November 2010, after which is expects commissioning and procurement to operate in terms of established planning, commissioning and procurement procedures and cycles.

The Board of the SABC is currently reviewing outstanding payment issues and expects these to be resolved shortly.

DOC Releases ICASA Amendment Bill For Public Comment

The Department of Communications has released the ICASA Amendment Bill for public comment. The Bill states the intention to amend the ICASA Act, 2000 so as to change the position of Chief Executive Officer to Chief Operations Officer, to clearly differentiate between the functions of the Council and the Chief Operations Officer, to improve turnaround times, to establish a Tariff Advisory Council, to improve the functioning of the Complaints and Compliance Committee and to provide for matters connected therewith. Intellectual Property Laws Amendment Bill

The Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry has published the Intellectual Property Laws Amendment Bill [B8-2010] for public comment by 9 July 2010. Public Hearings are due to take place in August.
