BROADCAST AMENDMENT BILL

On the 15 August the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications proposed the Broadcast Amendment Bill after a day of public hearings and several days of deliberations. The IPO made its own submission and endorsed the submission by the Civil Society Coalition: SAVE OUR SABC - RECLAIMING OUR PUBLIC BROADCASTER!

What are our moral obligations as filmmakers in a country in transition? Indeed what are our moral obligations as human beings? Yes, we all have jobs to do and we have our mandates and deadlines for broadcasters but how are we responding to the anger and poverty and violence that recent events have highlighted? What are the underlying causes of the xenophobic violence and what should we as an industry be doing to give voice and face to the millions of Africans whose day to day reality is chronic poverty and insecurity – financial and otherwise? |
